Del Potro Out Of French Open

World number seven and former US Open winner Juan Martin Del Potro has withdrawn from the 2013 French Open.

World number seven and former US Open winner Juan Martin Del Potro has withdrawn from the 2013 French Open.

The big-serving Argentine has been struggling with a virus and hasn’t recovered in time for this week’s event at Roland Garros.

“I am sad for missing this important tournament. It hit me hard because these are tournaments one always want to win,” Del Potro said in a statement.

“I must overcome this moment, recover and prepare again to perform well in the next commitments.”

Del Potro put in underwhelming performances in the two recent ATP tournaments on clay at Rome and Monte Carlo.

The Argentine, who made the quarter-finals of the French Open in 2012, follows Andy Murray in withdrawing from the event.
