Rafael Nadal’s charge towards the 2013 French Open title is on track after he won the Barcelona title over compatriot Nicolas Almagro on Sunday.
Nadal, who was beaten by Novak Djokovic in last week’s Monte Carlo Masters final, clinched his eighth crown in Barcelona with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Almagro.
The title was Nadal’s fourth of the year, having only returned to action over a month ago after half a year out with a knee problem.
“I’m very happy,” said Nadal. “This has been an important week for me.
“To win here again is a great joy after everything I’ve been through.
“It was a fantastic match for me.”
