Former world number one Rafael Nadal says he couldn’t imagine a better comeback from injury after winning his third tournament in four since his return at the Indian Wells WTA on Sunday.
The Spaniard, who returned to action last month after a long-term knee injury, triumphed in the decider at Indian Wells over Juan Martin del Potro 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
“Seriously, it’s impossible to have better comeback, no?” Nadal said. “Happy for everything.”
The Indian Wells triumph is significant as it is Nadal’s first major win and also his first on a hard court surface since his return.
“That’s makes emotional week for me,” he said.
“Very important victory for me, winning against the best players of the world on a surface that is good for them.”
The Spaniard enjoyed victories over Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych during the tournament in a sign he’s returning to his best. However, he admitted he had his doubts during his battle with injury.
“When you have one comeback like I’m having you remember all the low things, lower moments that you had during this seven months, doubts and all these things,” he said.
“The doubt when and where you will be able to be back on a tennis tournament is hard.”
