Hard Work Pays Off For Sharapova

Reigning French Open champion Maria Sharapova says the glory she felt after triumphing at the Indian Wells WTA is why she puts in all the hard work.

The four-time Grand Slam winner was too good for Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki in the final, winning 6-2, 6-2.

“This is what I do all the work for is these moments,” Sharapova said. “You feel like everything has paid off.”

The Russian broke Wozniacki in the first game and never let up, with her quick start setting the standard.

“It’s the final. You have to be on from the first point,” she said.

“I didn’t feel like I played my best tennis in the beginning of the tournament, but sometimes it’s the way it works.

“It’s always better to work yourself through the tournament and get better as it ends than sometimes start extremely well and don’t feel like you’re gaining momentum as the tournament goes on.”
