Swiss superstar Roger Federer progressed to the semifinals of the 2013 Australian Open on Wednesday after a thrilling five-set win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and he’s next expecting a “special” challenge from Andy Murray.
Murray enjoyed a breakthrough 2012, winning gold at the London Olympics over Federer and also claiming his maiden Grand Slam, triumphing at the US Open.
The Scot will take on Federer now, after his 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 win over Tsonga and the Swiss was looking forward to the task.
“I have got to recover a little bit but I will be fine. I am young you know, I will recover quick,” Federer laughed.
“It is great to have seen him play a great year last year … but this one in a few days should be something special.”
Federer admitted his quarter-final with Tsonga was a “tough” match but said it was a pleasure to take on the Frenchman who stepped up his game.
“The whole match was tough. Any set could have gone either way. You never know what he can do … and that is why he remains dangerous through a match and a tournament,” Federer said.
“I felt we played some great tennis and it was a pleasure playing against Jo tonight because he player great too.”
