World number one Roger Federer warmed up for the US Open in ominous fashion after defeating Novak Djokovic to win the Cincinnati Masters on Sunday.
The 2012 Wimbledon champion won 6-0, 7-6 (9-7) over the Serbian, with the Swiss maestro going through the tournament without dropping his serve.
“I’ve had a magical summer. I feel good about New York - but I’m going to savour this one for a bit,” Federer said. “I came here and never dropped my serve. That’s the kind of reaction I want to see from myself. I didn’t have a letdown.”
“This was probably the best week ever here in Cincinnati for me never dropping my serve and beating Novak in the final. This was very sweet. No doubt about it.”
Meanwhile, Djokovic said: “I had a fantastic week in Toronto. I came in here and didn’t really expect to get this far, get all the way to the title.”
