Wimbledon champion Serena Williams has warmed up for the Olympic games with another title, claiming the 2012 Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, USA.
The American won the decider 7-5, 6-3 over compatriot Coco Vandeweghe, while in Palermo, Italy, French Open finalist Sara Errani claimed another season crown with a 6-1, 6-3 win Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova.
Williams is now targeting Olympic gold, having won in Sydney in 2000 in the doubles alongside sister Venus.
“It would mean a lot to me, but I can’t lay all my hopes and dreams on just that. But it would mean a lot. I would like to try to get one,” Serena said.
Williams, who only won Wimbledon last week, added: “I was a little nervous about the quick turnaround (from Wimbledon). I’m so glad to be done with it, and to have actually won.
“Coco played so well. Her serve is really strong, but she was doing everything well out there. Her strokes are beautiful.”
