Federer Wins Against Djokovic in Switzerland
One of the top seeded players, Federer was able to break Djokovic’s serve earlier on the first round. He did so two more times during the deciding set and cruised into victory in the game that lasted just under two hours.
Federer was born in Basel and during his game, his parents, his wife Mirka, and his twin daughters Charlene and Myla, watched him from the courtside.
Federer said, “It’s very emotional winning at home, it makes it extra special. Because I live here and because the fans are behind me.”
Before he became the well known player that he currently is, Federer used to be a ballboy at the tournament. Since then, he has already won three Swiss Indoors titles consecutively from 2006 to 2008. This was before Djokovic broke his winning streak during last year’s final.
Federer adds, “It’s great to have won it after losing last year. it reminded me of last year’s match, but (this time) I got off to a great start in the third set.”
As for Djokovic, he said, “Results-wise, Roger is the best player ever to play the game.”
