According to the Los Angeles Lakers guard, Sasha Vujacic, he and Russian tennis great Maria Sharapova are already engaged.
Vujacic talked to the press on Thursday night before an exhibition game, and he said, “We are engaged and are both really happy… It’s good and now we can focus on other things.”
As for Sharapova’s side, her agent was able to confirm the said news via email to The Associated Press.
The proposal happened a year after their first meeting. According to Vujacic the gesture was rather old school, but he felt that he had to do it like a gentleman.
Although the wedding date has not yet been set, the Lakers guard from Slovenia returned to the basketball court after he was asked to rest when he got a concussion when Lamar Odom, his teammate, accidentally elbowed him during practice. So far, Vujacic averages 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in the 67 games he played for the Lakers in the previous season. The present season is his sixth season so far with the Lakers.
On the other hand, Maria Sharapova was deemed a great tennis player when she first won a major title when she was just 17 years old. She also won the U.S. Open in 2006 as well as the 2008 Australian Open. In addition, she has also graced the highly coveted top spot of the WTA rankings and is currently ranked at number 18 due to elbow injuries.
