The event’s organizers officially confirmed the Wimbledon and Australian Open champion’s entry on Thursday, which incidentally was the same day that Williams lost her No. 1 rank to Caroline Wozniacki.

When the rankings come out on Monday Williams will no longer sit at the top of the ranks. Denmark’s Wozniacki will take the spot instead.

Williams had undergone surgery after she cut her right foot from stepping on broken glass while at a restaurant right after she won the Wimbledon.

While she did return to practice tennis in September, her comeback was put off two times as she withdrew from the China Open in Beijing as well as the Pan Pacific Open which was held on Tokyo.

The event in Linz marks the seventh tournament that Williams is participating in this year. However, so far in her season, she has already done quite enough that would ensure her qualification for the end-of-season championship tournament that would be held in Doha.

Unfortunately, Williams’ sister, Venus, would not play again within the season because she suffered from a left knee injury which has caused her to be sidelined for the half of the 2010 season.
