At the U.S. Open, Spain’s tennis Superman won his 9th Grand Slam title by defeating Novak Djokovic in a game of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 and 6-2.
Serbian Djokovic is currently seated No. 3 in the world ranks, while Nadal seats up top. So far, aside from his current acquisition, Nadal has 5 French Open titles, 2 Wimbledon titles, and 1 Australian title. This current victory lifts him up the ranks landing 7th of all time winners just a behind Roger Federer who is currently enjoying his 16 titles.
The victory is also noted for being the title that would complete his Grand Slam set. He is the 7th player in the world to complete this feat, as well as being the 4th player to be victorious at 3 consecutive Grand Slam events since 1968.
During the match, Nadal broke the match and made a run to defeat Djokovic, but the Serb broke back making it level at 2-2. Then Nadal was able to make another break, and by the fifth game, it was enough to make him win the first set.
During the second set, Djokovic led most of the way, but Nadal was able to recover and struggle back to 4-4.
By the sixth set, Nadal was able to break once more and then soon ran off 4 games in a row. He persevered and soon was able to defeat Djokovic, claiming his U.S. Open title along with the $1.7 million-dollar top prize.
