A very happy Rafael Nadal sobbed into his towel after he felt a wave of emotion following his latest achievement victory at the French Open.>
This victory marks Nadal’s fifth French Open title after he defeated Robin Soderling at Roland Garros. Dubbed as the Spanish Superman, Nadal reclaimed another moniker of his, which is the “King of Clay,” during the match that ended in a 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 game.
According to Nadal, the day he won his fifth title at the French Open is his most emotional day in his entire career so far.
2009 was a rather difficult year for Nadal after he lost to Soderling at Roland Garros, as well as his difficulty when his parents separated, plus the trouble with his knee tendinitis and other concerns. His current victory marked the end of his longest running Grand Slam drought since his first title at the 2005 Roland Garros.
While on the way to the big prize, Nadal ran after shots all over the tennis court, and swept aside seven consecutive opponents, and even held each of the serves that were given. When he was given his trophy, Nadal told Soderling, “I played my best match against you… If not, it’s going to be impossible to beat you.”
