Nadal surely has done well while playing on clay courts, and he has proven his expertise on the surface when he was victorious at the Madrid Masters, winning his 18th title over all. During the match, he was able to successfully defeat the top seeded player, Roger Federer, in a 6-4, 7-6 (5) match during the said tournament.

After the victory, Nadal is said to grace the No. 2 spot on the world rankings, and after his victory at the Madrid Masters, Nadal was skillful enough to dodge questions of supposedly being the favorite at the tournament this coming May 23.

Regarding his victory, Nadal said, “I’m very happy with everything so far this year. I think I’ve returned to my top form and that’s the most important thing for me… Am I favorite to win at Roland Garros? I was last year and I lost.”

Last season was different for Nadal who fought off knee injuries which were one of the reasons why he had a hard time going against Federer.

Nadal further said, “The most important thing is winning at home; winning Madrid is a dream. After that, I think about the ranking… Against this opponent, it’s always going to be difficult.”
