Spanish tennis player Juan Ferrero emerged victorious in the openers in Monte Carlo, slamming his way past fellow Spanish player Marcel Granollers to win the first round with a score of 6-0, 6-3. Ferrero, the 2002 and 2003 champion in Monte Carlo entered the tournament as the ninth seed. After defeating tenth-seeded Granollers he is expected to face off with German player Benjamin Becker. This clay-court tournament is one of the main preparation tournaments before the French Open.
Tenth-seed Tomas Berdych also emerged the winner against Spanish player Feliciano Lopez with a final score of 6-3, 6-1. He is slated to face off with France’s Richard Gasquet who defeated Spanish player Daniel Gimeno-Traver with a score of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. The Czech player just came out as a finalist at the Final Slam in Miami two weeks ago.
Rafael Nadal, five-time defending champion is also slated to face off with either Eduardo Schwank or Thiemo de Bakker in the second round on Wednesday.
