Spain’s Davis Cup Team Captain Albert Costa confirmed that Rafael Nadal is indeed worrying about his numerous injuries. Nadal will be sidelined as the Spanish team faces off with Switzerland next week. Roger Federer is also not playing with the Swiss Team and has withdrawn from playing from the Dubai championships because of a lung infection.>
Nadal had to pull out of the Australian Open early this year due to a knee injury. But his problems have started as early as 2008 when he was sidelined by a knee injury that caused him to let pass Spain’s Davis Cup match with Argentina. He also missed several months of games right after the French Open because of knee problems.
Costa, however, is not worried, saying that Nadal is working hard to recuperate. “It’s normal, after 22 years and winning everything, to have some down time,’’ the coach said.
Even Manolo Santana, four-time Grand Slam champion is confident that Nadal will be back on his feet right in time to defend his title at Indian Wells next month. Nadal had helped the team win its second straight Davis Cup in December but for now, the Spanish Davis Cup team will have to concentrate on winning without the former number one. The Spanish team is also missing Fernando Verdasco who is out because of a leg injury.
