World Number 1 Roger Federer will face US Open champ Juan Martin del Potro for the second time for a round robin match at the ATP World Tour Finals, along with Andy Murray as one of the players drawn for Group A.
Federer, del Potro and Murray are included in Group A while Rafael Nadal was drawn in group B along with Robin Soderling, Novak Djokovic and Nikolay Davydenko. The top players in both groups will advance to the semifinals to be held at the O2 Arena on London on Saturday with the finals set to be held on November 29.
Each round robin match is worth $120,000 and winners of the semifinals can expect a prize purse worth $380,000 each. The undefeated champion will earn a total of $1.63 million and 1500 rankings points, making this a close match for Nadal and Federer, with the former trailing the current world number one by 945 ranking points. In his latest Grand slam tournaments, Federer lost to Nadal at the Australian Open and to Del Potro at the US Open. This was not a better year for Nadal, however, who suffered through injuries for most of 2009.
Djokovic is the defending champion after winning last year’s ATP World Tour finals in Shanghai.
