After his unexpected and miserable loss in the recent U.S. Open, Roger Federer may have the chance to redeem himself in the Davis Cup next year. Moreover, he may even get to fight with equally formidable tennis player Rafael Nadal. This is after Switzerland and Spain came a draw on last September 22, 2009.>
Federer is known by many to be not too keen about playing in Davis Cup. However, he was still able to provide victory over his team when they were able to beat Italy during the play-offs.
On the other hand, Nadal is normally plays on behalf of Spain and was even able to take the Davis Cup title in 2008. However, injuries have prevented him from playing for Spain against Israel as well as the finals against Argentina in the previous year. Spain will battle it out with Czech Republic in December.
Although Severin Luthi, the captain for the Switzerland team is not sure whether Federer is going to play or not should Switzerland end up fighting Spain, one thing is for sure: a lot of people will be crossing their fingers.
Federer and Nadal are the top 2 tennis players in the world today. They have met seven times in the finals of Grand Slam, 5 of which were won by Nadal. Nadal is also the only player to have beaten Federer in major finals, besides Juan Martin del Potro, who bested him during the 2009 U.S. Open.
