Roger Federer’s wife, Mirka, 31, gave birth to twin girls on Thursday, July 23, 2009. The proud parents named the twin Charlene Riva and Myla Rose. These girls are the first children of the couple.>
Federer made this announcement in his personal website and in his Facebook account.
“I have some exciting news to share with you,” said Federer. “Late last night, in Switzerland, Mirka and I became proud parents of twin girls… They are both healthy, and along with their mother they are doing great… This is the best day of our lives.”
Several fans congratulated the top ranked tennis player. “Here comes the future tennis players,” said one fan. “Wait 15 to 20 years. The Williams sisters will look like a joke compared to the Federer sisters,” another said.
Mirka who is born Miroslava Vavrinec, is a former WTA player, met the 27 year old Federer in 2000 during the Sydney Olympics. They both represented Switzerland in tennis. She retired due to recurring foot injury in 2002, and then became Federer’s relations manager. The two got married in Basel on April 11, 2009 joined by a small group of family and friends at the Wenkenhof Villa.
Early this month, Mirka made it to Wimbledon to watch Roger defeat Andy Roddick in the finals, which was the 15th grand slam title of his hubby.
