On Novak Djokovic’s third straight tournament, he beat Jan Hernych of the Czech Republic to reach the quarterfinals of the Open 13, otherwise known as the Marseille Open.
Among the other players to join Djokovic on the last eight slots are Gilles Simon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Julien Benneteau and Michael Llodra. Djokovic’s game against the Czech could hardly be called flawless. According to the Serb, he made a lot of errors, enough to give Hernych opportunities to come back in the match. However, with all the errors, Djokovic still managed to win straight sets with a score of 7-5, 6-4. Djokovic will be facing Mischa Zverev of Germany in the Open 13 quarterfinals.
Frenchmen and Masters Cup semifinalist Simon managed to outlast Rainer Schuettler with a score of 6-4, 4-6, and 6-2. He will face Benneteau in the quarterfinals who defeated George Bastl of Switzerland to reach the finals. Meanwhile, Tsonga’s serves clinched his victory against Simone Bolelli of Italy to face Feliciano Lopez in the quarterfinals while Llodra beat fellow Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu to face Mikhail Youzhny of Russia in the quarterfinals. With an all-star cast playing in the Open 13 quarterfinals, it is sure to be another interesting event to watch out for.
