American twin brothers Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan finished the Australian open with their 7th doubles Grand Slam title against Mark Knowles and Mahesh Bhupathi. By reaching the finals round, the twins managed to regain their No. 1 ranking. They are also the second pair of American siblings to go home with a win in the Aussie Open after Serena and Venus Williams. The sisters finished first in the women’s doubles category.
The Bryans brothers finished 2008 ranked No. 1 after the team of Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic.
In a statement, Mike Bryan said that, “It feels good to start the year off strong. We came to Australia really eager and hungry after the disappointment in Shanghai,”
The two have been working hard since their loss in Shanghai. They have been practicing hard since then and are glad that their efforts paid off in the end.
Knowles and Bhupathi acknowledge that they as a team worked hard, but were not able to catch up in the end. Knowles also said that they enjoyed competing with the Bryans and that the two were “worthy champions”.
This is the first time for the team of Knowles and Bhupathi to play for a Grand Slam title. Individually, they have had their share of multiple Grand Slam Doubles titles.
