Doha, Qatar – Former World Number 1 tennis player, Roger Federer, is hoping for a big season this 2009. Just one short of Pete Sampras’ record of 14 Grand Slam titles, this goal of Federer’s doesn’t seem to be too difficult to achieve.>
After being diagnosed with Mononucleosis last year, Federer was greatly slowed down, eventually paving way for rival, Rafael Nadal, to gain the number one spot. This year, Federer states that he is feeling much better and his practices and training are not hampered anymore by his illness. With this at the back of his mind, Federer feels very confident that he has a great year ahead of him.
Among his goals for the year 2009 are adding another Wimbledon title to his growing record and even winning his first ever French Open title. Federer has been very busy at the start of this year. He has been building towards the Australian Open. He played against Potito Starace of Italy at the first round of the season-opening of the Qatar Open.
Federer is not resting this season. He considers Rafael Nadal to be his main rival and though this is the case, he still looks forward to playing with the currently ranked number 1 tennis player in the world.
