Andy Murray has beaten the 13 time Grand Slam title winner, Roger Federer, on Friday, January 2, 2009 during the semi-finals of the Abu Dhabi Exhibition. Murray will move on to the finals and he will face another tennis great – Rafael Nadal. Nadal defeated Nikolay Davydenko securing a spot in the finals.>
When asked about his loss to Murray, Federer supplied “I have realized that I will win some and lose some,” He continued. “As long as I enjoy the game, I don’t mind the losses. But I surely want to win the big games.”
Murray also countered saying that he does want to beat Federer when it counts the most. “We had some close matches in the past. He beat me in the U.S. Open last year, but hopefully I will beat him at a Grand Slam,” Murray added.
On the other hand, top-ranked Rafael Nadal also played a good semifinals game against his opponent Devydenko. Nikolay held on for as long as he could, but Nadal finally closed out the match during the 6th game.
The exhibition event in Abu Dhabi, also known as the Capitala World Tennis Championship, which is not a part of the ATP tour, pits 10 of the world’s tops tennis players. Each will be competing for a winner-take-all price of $250,000.00.
