Goal kick

A goal kick, also referred to as a goalie kick is how all professional and club football matches are restarted. It is written under Law Number 16 of the governing laws and regulations of football. The goal kick is awarded to a defending team in the event that the opposing team manages to get the ball out of the field of play through crossing on the ground or in the air as well as in the goal line without a goal being scored. When this happens, the defending team can kick the ball directly to the goal. If the kick is executed without moving the ball or from a wrong area of the playing field, it will be retaken. Opponents are also not allowed inside the penalty area during a goal kick.

The New Goal Kick Rule in Football

A player can score through a goal kick. It can be scored from a direct goal kick against the competing team. In instances wherein a ball enters the own's kicker's goal, without being interrupted by any other player, a corner kick is awarded to the opposing team. In today's football rules, the ball is no longer required to leave the penalty area. This is true even before the teammate touches the ball. The goalkeeper is also not exempted from this rule. If he touches the ball for the kick, it automatically is considered in play. A goal can also be earned from a successful goal via a kick-off.

More on the Improved and New Rules in Football

More changes in the rules in professional football allow fans to see more of the players in action even in the penalty areas. Taking a goal kick currently allows players to pass the ball to their players who are in the box. Opposing teams are still not welcome inside the penalty area, but they can immediately step in as soon as the ball is in play. As for free kicks, the opposing team is to be located a meter away from the wall and is no way allowed to distract the players who are taking the free kicks. Referees can also allow quick free kicks even when the yellow card is handed over during gameplay. This is however applicable during a goal-scoring opportunity. During substitution, players are not allowed to go near the supporters because of the possibility of being abused. If they are to be taken off the game, they must exit the pitch near the touchline. They will have to walk behind the goals and around the edge to be able to return to their respective dugout areas.
