FC Sochaux is a French football club based in the city of Montbeliard. They currently feature in the French Ligue 1.
FC Sochaux were established in 1928 as a works team for Peugeot motor car factory in the village of Sochaux. Next year they turned professional, becoming the first French club to become a professional club.
Sochaux won the league championships in 1935 and then in 1938. In the post-war period, Sochaux starkly declined although they didn’t suffer relegation to the second division too very often.
Then in 2004 they won the Coupe de la Ligue, which was their first major trophy since the 1938 league championship. They then won the French Cup in 2007.
FC Sochaux play their home matches at the Stade Auguste Bonal that can accommodate a crowd of 20,005. They bear the nickname Les Lionceaux.
