Supervised by the Hong Kong Football Association, this team has also been representing Hong Kong in many other international football events prior to 1997 when it was a settlement of the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom handed Hong Kong to the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong is now a special administrative region of the People’s Republic of China in 1997. This is a separate team from the national team of the People’s Republic of China and as per the Basic Law and the principle, One country, two systems, it allows Hong Kong to have their own representative teams in any of the international sports events.

Tsang Wai Chung is the head coach of this team. Most of the caps were achieved by Lee Wai Man with 68 caps and Chan Siu Ki took 26 goals, which are the maximum goals ever achieved by the player. This team is ranked at 135 by FIFA rankings. The team men squad for long term training session is selected by the new coach, Tsang Wai Chung.

The Hong Kong team plays their home matches at the Hong Kong Stadium and the venue is the precise place where they are hosting the annual international matches known as the Carlsberg Cup which is a part of the festivities to celebrate the Chinese New Year. There is also another ground, namely the Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground, which is used by this team in Chai Wan along with the Mong Kok Stadium in Mong Kok.
