FC Shakhtar Donetsk is a Ukrainian football club based in the city of Donetsk. They currently feature in the Ukrainian Premier League.

FC Shakhtar Donetsk were established in 1936 as Stakhanovets. 10 years layer they adopted the name Shakhtyor and then in 1992 assumed their current name.

Shakhtar Donetsk won the USSR Cup in 1961 and 1962 and were dubbed “The Cup Team”. In 1975 they finished second in the USSR Championship and in 1978 they finished third in the championship.

Shakhtar Donetsk established themselves as one of the top two teams in the Ukrainian Premier League right from the start. They won their first Ukrainian championship in 2002 and won the league again in 2005,2006 and 2008. They have won the Ukrainian Cup six times.

Shakhtar Donetsk play their home matches at the RSK Olimpiyskyi that can hold 25,813 spectators. They bear the nicknames the “Miners” and the “Moles”.
