Club Nacional
Asuncion is host to many-a-teams that form a part of the Paraguayan league and Club Nacional is another team that resides in the city. The team was founded by the alumni of the Colegio Nacional de la Capital and was originally called the Nacional Football Club. The team, its jersey and most other aspects were based on the school.
With six first division titles to their name, the team is one of the largest in the country. In the second division, Nacional have three titles to their name from their campaigns in 1979, 1989 and 2003. Three attempts in the Copa Libertadores never amounted to anything past the first round.
Their youth system has brought out many incredible players, giving it the name “La Academia”. Their long list of stars includes Arsenio Erico, a youth team product; Florencio Amarilla, Roberto Acuna, Oscar Cardozo and many more.
