Based out of Barrio Obrero, the Sol de America sports club has a football team that plays in the first division of Paraguayan football. The team plays at the 5000 seater Estadio Luis Alfonso Giagni, located in Villa Elisa.

Sol de America have been crowned First Division champions twice, in 1986 and in 1991. They have had the privilege of being Second Division champions three times in 1965, 1977 and most recently in 2006. The team has also won the 1998 edition of the Torneo Republica. At the Copa Libertadores, despite six appearances, the Sol de America have only managed to reach the quarter-finals, their best performance, in 1989.

The likes of Enrique Vera, Dante Lopwz, Luis Cristaldo and Lider Marmol have been an integral part of their setup over the years.
