Club Social, Deportivo y Cultural Espanyol
Based out of Buenos Aires in Argentina, Club Social, Deportivo y Cultural Espanol plays in the Primera B Metropolitana division in Argentina’s football league structure. The club is commonly called Deportivo Espanol or simply Espanol.
Founded in 1956, the club decided to celibrate its birthday on the day Christopher Columbus discovered the new world, October 12th. In the lower leagues, the club was quick to pass through the levels, making its journey to the top in fine style. It would go onto finish third in its first season in the top flight, astounding everyone. It repeated the third place act in 1988-89 and then again in the Clausura tournament in 1992. However, once relegated in 1997-98, the team would never find it’s way back again and has been kept busy in the 2nd and 3rd divisions ever since.
In 2003, the club was declared bankrupt and was temporarily disbanded but supporters got together and recreated the club, which got accepted by the AFA.
