Stuart Holden is a professional football player from the United States who was born on August 1, 1985 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Holden is best known for currently one of the players of the Bolton Wanderers, a club in the English Premier League.
Although Holden was born on Aberdeen, Scotland, he actually grew up in Sugar Land, Texas, as his family moved to the area when he was just 10 years old. He started playing football while in studying at Clemson University. After just two years playing in college, he was signed by Sunderland, an English club in March 2005. However, he was not able to make his first-team appearance with the club since he was attacked outside a bar in Newcastle upon Tyne, where he suffered from a fractured left eye socket.
Holden then went back to the United States and opted to play in the MLS (Major League Soccer) for his hometown club, the Houston Dynamo. He stayed with Houston Dynamo from 2006 to 2009, where he made his debut on May 27, 2006. It was only a matter of time when he made his first professional goal on July 22 of the same year in a match against New England.
At the end of the 2009 MLS season, Holden went to England to spend several weeks of training. Then he joined the Bolton Wanders, which was a part of the English Premier League. Since then, he has stayed with the team, making 2 appearances so far.
Holden is also a part of the United States national team since 2009. So far, he has made 15 appearances for the United States and has scored 2 goals for the team.
