Born in Swaziland, Khumalo moved to Pretoria with family at the age of two. In South Africa, he was named for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in the South African squad.

In 2010, Khumalo scored the first goal against France after 21 minutes as the team finished their World Cup campaign with a 2-1 win. From 2007 onwards, he is with the Supersport United team and made 48 appearances with seven goals.
