William Ambrose "Billy" Wright is a famous English footballer, who was born on February 6, 1924 in Ironbridge, Shropshire, England. Billy is the first footballer in the world to earn 100 caps and he also gained the record for longest unbroken run in competitive international football.

Billy spent his entire football career at Wolverhampton Wanderers from 1939 to 1959. However, during the World War II, Billy joined the British Army and he became a Physical Training Instructor. Due to the war, he only played with the Wolves whenever possible, but he completed over 100 appearances in wartime football. In 1946 to 1959, he became a regular member of the England National Football team where he made a total of 105 appearances, scored 3 goals and captaining them for 90 times.

Billy won his 100th international cap against Scotland on April of 1959 and later on May of that year, he won his last cap against the USA. He then retired at the end of the 1958 to 1959 season. In total, Billy had made 541 caps and league appearances for the Wolves. After his retirement he became team manager of Arsenal FC.

In 1958, Billy was married to Joy Beverley a famous British singer and became a Head of Sport for Associated TV and Central Television networks. On September 3, 1994, Billy died from stomach cancer at age 70.
