A veteran at the game, German Villa Castaneda is a professional Mexican footballer who plays as a defender. Villa became a member of the youth team at Club America before making his way into the senior team in 1991. He made his debut in the same season, playing against Leon. Villa quickly became a part of the first team at Club America until 1998, when he decided to move to Spain on a loan move.

It was RCD Espanyol who took Villa on and Villa spent an entire season at the club with just 12 caps under his belt. He was rarely used by the coach and struggled to make himself a regular part of the team.

Moving back to Mexico, Villa came and joined Club Necaxa for another 17 games, scoring a solitary goal for the team. He went back to Club America at the end of the season and went on to play for the team until 2009. He made over 430 appearances for the team, scoring 14 goals.

In 2001, he won the CONCACAF Giants Cup before winning two Mexican championships in 2002 and 2005 as well as winning the 2004-05 Campeon de Campeones title. He even helped Club America win the 2006 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

In 2010, Villa finally bid farewell to Club America, his club for almost 19 seasons, and joined Queretaro in a bid to retire gracefully from his professional career. He has played just 4 games for the team but is, in all likelihood, looking at an after-football career with the team.

Between 1996 and 2002, Villa made over 60 appearances for the Mexican senior national team and also helped the team win the 1999 Confederations Cup.
