Rüstü Reçber is a football goalkeeper from Turkey. He was born on May 10, 1973 in Korkuteli, Antalya, Turkey, and he currently plays for Besiktas, J.K. Reçber is known as Turkey’s record holder for most caps for international events. He is an integral part of the development and success of Turkey’s national squad. In fact, it was in the FIFA World Cup of 2002 that Turkey managed to finish third place and he was selected to be a part of the All Star team of the tournament.
In the 2002 European competitions, Reçber was named as the best goalkeeper, as well as being selected for the UEFA Team of the Year in 2002 through public votes. In 2004, Reçber was selected to be a part of the FIFA 100 by Pele as one of the known 125 best living football player all over the world.
Reçber was actually first discovered by Ilie Datcu, a goalkeeper coach. He was then introduced to Fatih Terim, Termin was quite impressed by Reçber’s performance that he told the player that he would someday be the greatest goalkeeper that Turkey ever had. He said that even though Reçber was the third choice as a goalkeeper of the club.
Terim did more than just predict Reçber’s future, he also recommended him to three of the big clubs of Istanbul: Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, and Besiktas. Reçber signed with the latter, however he got into a car crash where he was badly injured and even failed to pass the medical examination.
Some of the clubs that Reçber became a member of included Antalyaspor, Fenerbahce, Barcelona, and Besiktas.
