Kakha Kaladze is a Georgian international footballer who currently features for the Italian and European giants AC Milan. He is a versatile defender who can play either at centre-back or in his prefered position left-back. He is regarded as the best ever footballer to have emerged out of Georgia.
Kakha Kaladze made his professional debut for the Georgian side Dinamo Tbilisi in 1993 when he was just 16 years of age and was transferred to Ukrainian powerhouse Dynamo Kyiv in 1997 after making 82 appearances.
Kaladze was signed by AC Milan in the summer of 2001 from Kyiv for a staggering 16 million euros making him the most expensive footballer in Georgian history. At Milan though Kaladze has been on and off the first team. He won the 2003 and 2007 UEFA Champions League and the 2003-2004 Italian Serie A title with Milan. He has a contract until 2010 with Milan.
Kakha Kaladze made his international debut for Georgia in March,1996 against Cyprus and was voted Georgia’s Footballer of the Year in 2001 and 2002. He has earned 62 caps for his country.
In 2001, Kakha’s brother Levan was kidnapped in Georgia, with a ransom of 600,000 dollars demanded. In May 2005, Georgian police officers found eight dead bodies in Svaneti region. On February 21, 2006, it was confirmed that one of the bodies was that of Levan.
