Joris Mathijsen is a Dutch international football player who currently features for the German Bundesliga SV Hamburg. He plays as a central defender.
Joris Mathijsen commenced his professional club football career at Dutch side Willem II in 1998 and played for them until 2004, scoring 6 goals in 127 appearances. He made his debut for Willem II on February 27,1999 against FC Utrecht.
Mathijsen was signed by AZ Alkmaar in 2004 and played for them for two seasons but didn’t manage to settle in very smoothly. He moved to SV Hamburg in the German Bundesliga in 2006 and has been with them since then.
Joris Mathijsen made his international debut for the Netherlands against Andorra and has featured in over 40 international matches for his nation since then. He was part of the Dutch national squad for the Euro 2008 finals.
