Mauro Matias Zarate Riga is a young Argentine football player who currently features for the Italian Serie A club Lazio. He plays as a striker and is regarded as one of the best young players in the world.
Mauro Zarate commenced his professional club football career at Argentine club Velez Sarsfield in 2004 and played for them until 2007, scoring 22 goals in 75 league appearances. Zarate was signed by Qatari club Al-Sadd in the summer of 2007 on a two-year contract for 20 million euros. He was loaned out to English club Birmingham City in January 2008 and he scored four goals in 14 league appearances between then and the end of the 2007-2008 season.
In the summer of 2008 Mauro Zarate was loaned out to Italian Serie A club Lazio. The Argentine was a sensation for Lazio in the 2008-2009 season and scored 13 goals in 35 league matches, winning the Coppa Italia with them.
Mauro Zarate was signed by Lazio on a permanent deal in the summer of 2009 for 25 million euros.
