A football striker, Leandro Camara do Amaral began playing professional football in 1997 with Portuguesa des Desportos, after he worked his way from the youth division of the same club, which he joined in 1995. Amaral remained with the club till 1999, during which time he scored an impressive 29 goals in over 70 appearances. The talented footballer shifted clubs in 1999, when he moved to Fiorentina and remained there till 2001. He scored 5 goals during his tenure with Fiorentina.

In 2001, Amaral spent one season with Gremio during which he scored 3 goals in his 9 appearances with the first team. He moved to Sao Paulo FC for the next season, where he scored 2 goals in over 15 appearances. Amaral moved to Palmeiras the next season, but before he could make any appearances with the team he moved to Corinthians, where he completed the remaining season.

In 2004, Amaral moved to Ituano FC, but once again moved midseason, but this time back to Portuguesa, where he remained till the end of 2004. After scoring an impressive 11 goals in 17 appearances with the first team, Amaral moved to FC Istres in 2005, but after one appearance with the team he moved back to Portuguesa. After one season with the club, he moved to Vasco da Gama, where during the one season with the club he scored 21 goals in over 40 appearances with the team. In 2008, Amaral moved to Fluminense, but completed the season with Vasco da Gama, but in 2009 he moved back to current club, Fluminense.

Amaral has also had the opportunity to represent his country, when he was called to join the Brazilian national team in 2000-01. He made 7 appearances with the national team, but could not score. Some of his other top honors include the Coppa Italia with Fiorentina, in 2001 and also the Bola de Prata award in 2007.
