A football defender from Brazil, Edcarlos Conceicao Santos began playing football in the youth division of Sao Paulo in 2001. After one season he was picked for the first team of the same club and made his professional debut in 2003. He remained with Sao Paulo till 2007, during which time he made over 60 appearances with the team and scored twice.

In 2007 Santos moved to Benfica, his current club, where he remained for one season, during which he made over 15 appearances but could not score even once. In 2008, Santos was loaned out to Fluminense FC, where he has made over 10 appearances with the first team so far, and has managed to score once.

Santos has also had the opportunity to play for his country when he was called up for the Brazilian Under-20 national team in 2003. He has also played in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, with the Brazilian national team, which was held in The Netherlands. Some of his other honors include the Sao Paulo State league title in 2005, the Libertadores Cup and the FIFA Club World Championship, in the same year, as well as the Brazilian League title in 2006.
