Fernando Ruben Gago is an Argentina international defensive midfielder currently playing for the Spanish giants Spain. Gago is considered as one of the most promising defensive midfield players in the world and is actually frequently compared to Argentine legend Fernando Redondo.
Gago is a graduate of the famous Boca Juniors youth academy and made his professional debut with the Argentine giants on December 5, 2005 when he helped Boca defeat Quilmes 1-0. After just two years, he was signed by Real Madrid and made his debut for the Merengues against Deportivo la Coruna on January 7, 2007 in a match that Madrid easily won 2-0.
Gago then consolidated his place in the Real Madrid set-up under coach Fabio Capello and won the Spanish championship with Real Madrid last season. But in the 2007-2008 season under new coach Bernd Schuster, Gago has been unable to find his footing, and has been unable to impress since then
Gago was sent out on loan to Roma for the 2011-12 season where he regained his footing and played regularly for the Italian giants. However, at the end of the season Roma decided against signing him on a permanent contract and he left Madrid to join Valencia.
