A Paraguayan professional soccer player, Santiago Gabriel Salcedo Gonzalez, Santiago was part of Cerro Porteno, a Paraguayan Primera Division side, where he was one of the topmost strikers. His performances came forth in 2005 when he scored nine goals for the team before moving to FC Tokyo, a J-League side, in 2006. In the second half of 2006, he returned to South America and to Newell's Old Boys in Argentina, on loan.
In 2007, he was loaned out to Jaguares de Chiapas in Mexico for the 2007 Clausura tournament but his stint at the club lasted only till the start of the 2007 season, when he returned to Newell's Old Boys. He scored 9 goals in the season and caught the sight of River Plate, where he went in the August of 2008.
