James Collins started his professional club football at Welsh side Cardiff City in 2000 and featured prominently for them for five years, scoring 3 goals in 65 league matches. He was adjudged as the Welsh Young Player of the Year in 2005 and was marked for a bright foootballing career.
James Collins was signed by West ham United in July 2005 for 3.5 million pounds along with Danny Gabidon. But he has not been able to thread into the starting xi on a regular basis due to fitness problems and intense competition for places.
