Joseph Anthony “Joey” Barton is an English football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Newcastle United. He is a central midfielder and is said to be a hugely talented and passionate footballer.
Joey Barton developed at the youth academy of Manchester City and made his debut for the senior side in 2002 and played for Man City for five years, scoring 15 goals in 130 English Premier League matches.
In the summer of 2007 Newcastle United signed Joey Barton from Man City for 5.8 million pounds in July 2007. Barton featured 23 times in the Premier League in the 2007-2008 season, scoring 1 goal.
Joey Barton made his international debut for England against in 2007.
Joey Barton though has earned a reputation for controversy and bad discipline. He has been convicted twice on charges of violence so far. On May 20 2008, Joey Barton was sentenced to six months imprisonment for common assault and affray during an incident outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Liverpool.
On July 1,2008 Joey Barton was given a four month suspended sentence after he admitted of being guilty of actual bodily harm on former teammate Osumane Dabo during a training ground dispute.
