Mehdi Mostefa Sbaa is a professional football player from France who plays as defensive midfielder. Born to an Algerian father and French mother, Mehdi was part of the youth team at a local academy in Dijon, called Fontaine-les-Dijon FC, between 1994 and 1997. He then spent a season at Dijon FCO before moving to AS Monaco, still amongst the youth academy players in the country. Between 1998 and 2003, Mehdi grew up through the ranks at Monaco but never managed to break into the first team.

He made his professional debut with ASOA Valence in 2004, playing 37 games and scoring once for the team over the first season. He moved to EDS Montlucon in 2005-06 before transferring to FC Sete the following season. Mehdi played 31 times for Sete, scoring four goals and earned a move to Nimes Olympique in 2007. For the next four seasons, Mehdi worked his way into the first team at Nimes and made himself a regular member of the first team, playing over 140 games and scoring 7 goals.

In 2010, Mehdi also made his national team debut for Algeria, even though he had the option to play for France. However, the player probably had realistic dreams in mind and chose his father’s native country over his mother’s. He has played 7 games for the national team and in 2011, continued doing so after moving to AC Ajaccio. Since moving to Ajaccio, Mehdi has played 36 times for the club and scored 3 goals, helping the team stay in top-flight football for another season.
