Manoel Obina
Manoel de Brito Filho, better known as Obina, is a professional football player from Brazil who plays as a striker. Obina was part of the youth setup at Esporte Clube Vitoria and made his professional debut in 2002, for their first team. However, it wasn’t until 2004 that he made his mark with the side, scoring 24 goals in the season and 19 in the Serie A, becoming the top-scorer for his side.
This performance came after a loan move to Fluminense in 2003 and another loan to Clube de Regatas Brasil, later that same year. In 2005, after his brilliant season with Vitoria, Obina moved to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia but before he could make any form of impact, he was signed up by Flamengo. Between 2005 and 2010, Obina played over 110 times for Flamengo, scoring 28 goals.
Although he had already helped Vitoria win the 2004 Bahia State title, with Flamengo, Obina hit a new high. He helped the side win the 2006 Copa do Brasil, the 2007 and 2008 Taca Guanabara titles, the 2009 Taca Rio title and the 2007, 08 and 09 Rio de Janeiro State League titles. This came despite a 2009 loan move to Palmeiras where Obina played 27 games and scored 12 goals.
In 2010, after finishing up his contract with Flamengo, Obina moved to Atletico Mineiro and played 24 times, scoring once every two matches in the league. He won the 2010 Minas Gerais State League title with the club before moving to China and signing up with Shandong Luneng, for 2011-12, scoring 12 times in 34 games. In 2012 Obina moved back to Brazil and signed up with Palmeiras where he remains a member of their first team but spends a lot of time on the bench.
