A professional football player from Brazil, Vilson Xavier de Menezes Junior plays as a central defender although he’s also been known to play in the defensive midfielder’s role at times. Vilson was a part of the Madureira Esporte Clube youth academy and in 2004-05, came to the fore after some stellar growth. His spurt meant that making a first team debut came as the natural progression, and between 2006 and 2010, Madureira would hold the rights to Vilson’s contract.
That said, Vilson would spend most of his time out on loan, first to Vasco da Gama between 2007 & 2009 and then to Esporte Clube Vitoria in 2010 before another move to Gremio, for the second half of 2010. Between 2007 and 2009, Vilson made almost 60 league appearances for Vasco and then after 3 matches for Vitoria, would move on to play for Gremio.
During his loan spell, Vilson played just 15 games for Gremio and scored 1 goal, enough to get Gremio to sign him on a permanent deal in 2011. Since then, Vilson has been a part of the first team at Gremio, being used mostly at the state league and cup level.
