A professional football player from Colombia, Edwin Valencia plays as a defensive midfielder. Valencia began his playing career at America de Cali, as a youth squad member. He broke into the club’s first team in 2004, and his impact was immediate. After initially making appearances as a substitute, Valencia made a permanent place for himself in the first team and played 62 games with 5 goals to his name.
He was also picked for the Colombian national team in 2006, just before moving to Brazil and signing up with Atletico Paranaense. Over the next four seasons, Valencia continued his solid and stable performances for the club, notching up over a hundred appearances in all competition. Towards the end of 2010, Valencia moved to Fluminense where he’s struggled with fitness and getting a regular place in the first team. Valencia has only 30-odd appearances in all competition, even though he’s won the 2010 Serie A, the 2012 Taca Guanabara and the 2012 Campeonato Carioca titles with the side.
