A professional football player from Brazil, Diego Mauricio plays as a striker and is known by the nickname, “Drogbinha” or “Little Drogba”. This name stems from the fact that Mauricio is quite similar in physical stature and strength to the great Ivorian striker Didier Drogba. In 2006, Mauricio came in to prominence while playing for the youth team at Flamengo.

He remained part of the youth academy setup until 2010, following which came his debut for the Flamengo senior side. Since moving into the first team, Mauricio has played over 70 games for the club, in all competition, and scored just 8 goals. Most of his appearances have come as a substitute for the side, coming on later in the game and bullying defenders with his stature.

In 2011, Mauricio was also picked for the Brazilian Under-20 national team and his 2 goals in 8 games were instrumental in helping Brazil win the 2011 South American Youth Championships. He has also won the 2011 Taca Rio and Taca Guanabara titles with Flamengo, as well as the 2011 Rio de Janeiro State League title.
