Welinton Souza Silva is a professional football player from Brazil who plays as a defender. In 2007, Welinton suddenly shot to fame in the Flamengo youth academy, making his mark with his tall stature and solid performances. In 2008, Welinton got picked for the Brazilian Under-20 national team, playing 8 games for the side and helping them win the 2009 South American Youth Championships.

At the same time, Welinton had also made his debut for the Flamengo first team. He helped Flamengo win silverware in 2009, with the Taca Rio title and the Brazilian Serie A title. Flamengo even won the 2009 Rio de Janeiro State League title in 2009. A couple of years later, Welinton had established himself as one of the top players in the team, and it wasn’t long before the Rio de Janeiro state league title came back to Flamengo.

Flamengo also went on to win the Taca Guanabara title as well as the Taca Rio title, with Welinton leading the way from the back. This tall defender has already made himself indispensible for the Flamengo side, playing over 70 games since breaking into the first team.
