Joao Paulo Pereira Mendes Bersch is a professional football player from Brazil who plays as a defender. In 2001, Paulo was noticed for the first time during his time at the Clube Atletico Paranaense youth academy. After two seasons, he moved into the first team but for the entire 2003 season, did not make a single appearance for the team.
The following season, he moved to Parana Clube where he was mainly in the reserve team. He spent five seasons at the club but only managed to make 35 appearances for the team. Even during his loan spell to Goais Esporte Clube, in 2008, he only picked up 9 appearances, but Paulo was impressive enough to be picked by the club when his Atletico contract expired. After spending two seasons with Goais and only managing 14 more appearances, he moved to Figueirense on loan in 2010.
After just four games with the team, Paulo managed to impress his team and earned himself a permanent move to Figueirense.
